On October 13, 2020, the Forum “Science, Dialogue of Generations” was held at V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, in which the director of O. Ya. Usikov IRE NASU academician P. M. Melezhik and the head of the Young Scientists Council of O. Ya. Usikov IRE NASU T. M. Rokhmanova took part.

The forum was held in the form of a discussion of leading and young scientists on the development of science and the intellectual future of Ukraine in three sections “Science and Society”, “Science and Government”, “Science and Economics”. The purpose of the event was to consolidate the efforts of the authorities, the scientific community, representatives of the real sector of the economy and the business environment of Kharkiv region to ensure the further development of Ukraine. On October 7, 2020, the election of the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was held, in which a delegate and representative of the IRE NASU Young Scientists Council Yuriy Kovshov took part.
Out of 4 candidates for this post, academician Anatoly Glebovich Zavgorodniy was elected by a majority of the votes (66.7%). Anatoly Glebovich was able to find the time and visit his home meeting of the Department of Physics and Astronomy on October 8, at which the members of the department congratulated him on his new post. We join in the congratulations and wish him a productive work, good health, scientific achievements, strength and energy for new achievements!

On September 29, 2020, the All-Ukrainian Forum of Young Scientists Councils was held, in which the head of IRE NASU Young Scientists Council Tetiana Rokhmanova took part. The purpose of the forum was to create a platform for the development of connection between young scientists, to establish a dialogue between the young scientists councils, authorities and the public. Due to the unstable epidemiological situation in Ukraine, the Forum was held online.

On September 23, 2020, at Petro Vasylenko Kharkiv National Technical University of Agriculture, the first Regional meeting of representatives of the Young Scientists Council at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine with the members of the Young Scientists Council at Kharkiv Regional State Administration (YSC at KhRSA) took place.

During the meeting, the representative of the Young Scientists Council of IRE NASU Yuri Kovshov made a presentation of the activities of the Council and the modern challenges of young scientists. The purpose of the meeting was to get acquainted with the work of the young scientist councils and to establish cooperation.

Young Scientists Council of O. Ya. Usykov Institute for Radiophysics and Electronics NAS of Ukraine, with the great support of EPS Young Minds organization, held a competition of articles for young scientists.

The offline part of the competition took place on September 2 in the conference hall of the Institute in compliance with sanitary norms – up to 17 people in the hall, sanitizer, and masks. All works had a high scientific level, which made it difficult for the members of the Council to select the winners but created a very productive atmosphere. Results of the competition:
1) First place – Oleg Yermakov from V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University for the work “Hybrid waves localized at hyperbolic metasurfaces”;
2) Second place – Trofimenko Sergei from NSC “Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology” for the work “X-ray emission by a high-energy electron with a nonequilibrium field in an ultrathin crystal”;
3) Third place – Maxim Mazanov from V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University for the work “Resonant absorption of terahertz waves in layered superconductors: Wood’s anomalies and anomalous dispersion”;
Encouraging prizes were awarded to Anatoliy Dudush (Ivan Kozhedub KAFU), Ivzhenko Lyubov (IRE NASU), Trofimenko Serhiy (NSC “KIPT”), Mazanov Maksym (V. N. Karazin KhNU).
